Please use your vote, it's precious
WHILE we can all take issue with the various parties contesting the forthcoming election, there is one stance that deserves no credit or respectability: the "I won't bother voting at all" attitude.
Do such people ever stop and reflect on just how precious the right to vote is? Look at those mass demonstrations in Egypt, millions crying out for democracy, or at how the people of Burma are suffering under a cruel and murderous regime, or North Korea, where even the whisper of anti-government dissent brings an immediate crushing response.
These are just a few examples of democracy denied. Whatever the magnitude of our problems here in Ireland, and however daunting the social and economic challenges facing us, we do have that opportunity to cast our ballots for the candidates or parties of our choice on February 25.
