Planners ripped up rural Ireland

I DISAGREE with Brian Cussen's comments about planners hiding behind jargon when it comes to getting permission for 'dream homes' in the countryside ('Planners hide behind jargon', Irish Independent, July 2).

In fact, the planners have made too many concessions and allowed some of the most garish, ugly and misplaced single- house developments to destroy the quality of our once breathtaking landscape.

Most of these 'trophy houses' are a shock to the senses and will never fit in with their surroundings -- just like a big chunk of their occupiers.
