Petrol stations fuel frustration
Friday February 22 2008
During the "boom years" in property prices, many got out of petrol retailing when they discovered how much the premises was worth. Petrol stations are few and far between in many places now.
There are some stretches of motorway where your "petrol low" light would not want to come on at the beginning of the journey.
Add this to the fact that toilet stops are hard to come by and that some garages don't allow customers to use the toilets.
I once had a headlamp bulb blow, and tried no less than seven garages in order to find a replacement. Nothing doing. Luckily, the eighth had them, so I bought the entire stock.
Garages, by law, should have to carry spare headlamp bulbs.
The air issue is another, mind you, the occasional moron will drive over the entire thing and render it inoperative.
I would also really love to see garages take an interest in people who block petrol pumps and do not actually buy petrol.
I watched in amazement at one forecourt as every person who pulled in stopped at the pumps nearest the entrance, rendering a total of six pumps (half of the forecourt) inaccessible.
