People power is only way forward
What we need in Ireland is a greater distribution of power. We the people need a greater say in how the country is run and at a local level. To give just one example -- given the current cold spell -- we have children freezing in prefabs all across the country, while at the same time the Department of Education sits on a pile of money designated for building works. How could this ever happen?
It happens because all decisions are taken centrally and are executed within a structure that hinders rather than promotes progress. As a result, very little gets done -- and what does get done costs several times more than it should.
If some sort of local government was available here in this country that worked closely with, and was accountable to, local community groups, then the parents themselves could organise getting the job done at a realistic price, giving much-needed work to local builders.
