DECLAN Doyle is purveying the standard "we are all to blame for the recession" mantra when he says that "we" should have never paid ourselves "high salaries in the first place'" (Letters, March 1).

The decisions which landed all of us in a financial and economic mess were made, not by ordinary people or, if they were members of trade unions, by the leaders of their unions.

The decisions that caused what Declan Doyle calls "the storm of economic disaster" were made by a small number of people at the head of government, banks, building, etc.
