Pensioners suffering like everyone else

J MORIARTY'S letter 'Pensioners get off scot-free yet again' (December 9) contains some inaccuracies that must be corrected.

Firstly, Mr Moriarty appears to have based his belief that pensioners have not been adversely affected by the Budget on the fact that the state pension was not cut.

With one in 10 pensioners at risk of poverty and many more on incomes hovering around the poverty line, their situation has not improved as a result of the Budget. Any cut in the state pension would have resulted in many more living in poverty.
