Paying for Sean's big gamble
LISTENING to the news, my mind took me back to a story about Sean Quinn playing cards in his local pub in Cavan on a Tuesday night with the same group of friends he had played with for years. It was reported that the stakes for each hand were a modest 50 cent. This seemed to show the down-to-earth, frugal nature of the man.
We now hear that Sean Quinn invested nearly €2.8bn in Anglo shares although, as the dogs on the street know, "shares can fall as well as rise". In poker parlance, Sean Quinn "went all in" and lost big time and now it looks like the taxpayer is going to have to pay yet again.
