PAYE workers are fleeced yet again
Thursday February 05 2009
As a teacher with 17 years service with my local VEC, I am appalled. As usual the soft and easy target has been sought out, and who softer than the PAYE worker?
A worker with nowhere to hide his or her income is always the first and hardest hit.
Already I don't take home two-thirds of my salary and now a further large percentage is to be deducted. How many self-employed people pay such a percentage of their earnings after self-assessment tax returns?
In recent weeks we have seen those that do not perform their duties receive the finest of golden handshakes and pensions.
When will we ever have accountability in our country?
And speaking of pensions, there are none better in this State that those received in Dail Eireann.
Where else would anyone receive a pension after a few years of 'work' payable many years in advance of retirement age?
In trying to repair our economy, surely we need to start at the top and work our way down. And where better to start than Dail Eireann and with those who made so much money in the good years -- builders, developers, solicitors, auctioneers, and tradesmen.
