Palin a liability for McCain
The late, attractive, and very funny Judy Holliday played Billie, a beautiful airhead with a rare talent for combining corny cliches and mind-boggling non sequiturs in a single sentence.
She had a ditzy charm that dazzled her listeners and left them dumbfounded.
I don't believe the likes of Billie has been seen since. That is, until Sarah Palin came along.
Billie's boyfriend (Broderick Crawford) was a man with ambition, who hired a tutor (William Holden) to clue Billie in on things like politics, and on what to say in public.
Though Billie's heart was in the right place, the rough edges, the cliches and non sequiturs never disappeared.
Life imitates art? You betcha! Sarah has more evasive answers, "darn rights" and "you betchas" than Billie Dawn could ever come up with.
Nobody in mainstream America speaks like Sarah. Sarah, is overly folksy for most of us. More importantly, after watching her interviews, and the vice presidential debate, the independents and party switchers -- the voters who count -- have arrived at the conclusion that she is unfit to serve in high office.
She has become a liability for John McCain, which makes us wonder about his judgment, and about what sort of people he would select to serve with him, should he be elected president of the United States.
