Paidi guilty of

Sir -- Upon an initial reading, I liked the tone of Paidi O Se's writing (Sunday Independent, November 7, 2010). It's perfectly right to draw away from the negativity which seems to pervade the media and Government. However, that does not mean that we shouldn't learn from our mistakes.
One of Paidi's laudable aspirations is to attract more tourists from the English market. It would be a pleasure to visit Kerry instead of Hadrian's Wall, the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District! You see, Paidi, the simple reality is that tourism is an extremely competitive industry and people tend to vote with their feet. Ireland remains an expensive destination, and frankly the quality of what is on offer is considerably degraded by ghost towns, rural sprawl/blitz and the retinue of empty hotels.
