Over the moon with the Rovers

•In spite of all of the calamities that surround professional football in Ireland, the achievement of Rovers in reaching the group stages of the Europa League is surely a triumph of hope over expectation.

The Irish, and indeed the English press and media, are rightly lauding their fantastic feat as the first Irish football team ever to reach the group stages of a major European cup competition.

In regard to this monumental achievement, would it be churlish to expect that the cherrypicker, armchair Irish football supporter of all things top four of the English Premiership, may finally begin to see that with more indigenous support, the League of Ireland could be on the cusp of a new era.
