Out of their tree

•I have just read that male koalas in Australia bellow so loudly during the mating season because their voice boxes are akin to those found in humans.

The much-loved Aussie emblems have a delightfully cuddly image, but according to a new scientific discovery 1 15lb koala can bellow every bit as loud as a cow weighing more than a tonne.

Researchers claim the marsupial emitted a louder sound as a way of attracting sexual partners. Presumably, just like the yahoos in Temple Bar who kept me awake last night, they were also out of their trees!
