Our licensing laws only benefit the vintners

WITH regard to the recent criminal court case against the two barmen, there is now a civil case looming, alleging lack of care in the serving of alcohol.
It will be with great interest that I will watch the publicans having to make a defence that they are not responsible for excessive drinking of patrons on their premises.
The whole basis for our overly restrictive pub licensing system is, as argued by the vintners, solely to ensure responsible drinking of alcohol on the premises.
