Orthopaedic unit bears huge load

The Tallaght Hospital Review is a fine outcome from a concentrated piece of work into two serious delays in patient care.

If one were to criticise it, then it is regrettable that, in describing the issue of the GP referral letters to the orthopaedics department, the Tallaght report did not put the demands for patient services in context.

Similar to radiology, the demands on the orthopaedic service exceeded the capacity of the unit. That remains the case.
