O'Connor right on property tax

Published 05/12/2010 | 05:00

Sir -- I would recommend Brendan O'Connor's column in the Sunday Independent of November 28 to anyone who considers that the proposed €100 property tax is a low-value, benign tax that we can all afford to pay "for the good of the country".

Mr O'Connor correctly states that now that the Government has taxed economic activity to the hilt, it is proposing a tax on "doing nothing".

I would encourage all to consider the levels to which this tax could grow in future years before accepting it as a fait accompli.
