Nursing homes squeezed by HSE
I REFER to Shane Phelan's report (Irish Independent, April 12) on HSE files, which reveal that the problems health bosses had hoped to eradicate from public and private nursing homes since the Leas Cross scandal continue to persist.
While Mr Phelan's article outlines a selection of complaints made regarding both public and private nursing homes, it fails to address the underlying reason for these complaints.
A consistent theme in the complaints highlighted relates to inadequate staffing levels. Unfortunately, this position will continue to get worse under the Fair Deal funding scheme for nursing homes.
