Nurses don't get privilege holidays

Sir -- I wish to refer to your report "Public servants enjoy time off despite austerity". (Sunday Independent, Jan 1).
On behalf of nurses and all other frontline public service workers who worked 24/7 over Christmas and the New Year period, as we do over all the other 51 weeks in the year, I wish to take exception to the content of your article.
Nurses and other frontline public service workers do not receive any additional "privilege days" for working over Christmas, New Year, Easter, night duty, weekends etc. Nurses receive a standard annual leave entitlement of between 24 and 28 days per annum depending on grade and length of service.
