Nothing new about Patrick's origins

The story of St Patrick's antecedents may have been news to John Cooney, but I am sorry to inform him that there is nothing new in the story. I refer him to Alban Butler's 'Lives of the Saints', from which I quote: "St Patrick was born towards the close of the fourth century, in a village called Bonaven Taberni, which seems to be the town of Kilpatrick, on the mouth of the river Clyde, in Scotland, between Dumbarton and Glasgow."
