Not all young male motorists feel need for breakneck speed

The recent ruling by the European Court of Justice on gender equality in car insurance rates has been easy fodder for opinion columnists. Each journalist has touted a purportedly self-evident truth -- this ruling will force others to pay for the recklessness of young drivers.

"Boy racers" is a term that has been bandied about with little regard for the connotative impact it has.

True, there are some who drive too fast and drive recklessly, the results of which are often devastating and tragically avoidable, but when "boy racer" is used as a convenient catch-all term it immediately labels all young men who drive as such.
