North shopping boom is our loss

Sir --As Christmas edges ever nearer, the number of shoppers heading North is as strong as ever. The Department of Finance indicated that €700m was lost in the Irish economy in 2009 as a direct result of cross-border shopping. This amount of money is a colossal loss to our country in these deep recessionary times. These shoppers are boosting the British economy rather than shopping at home and saving Irish money and jobs.
