No room at the Church

• Having heard the Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin's entreaty to the non-practising members of the Roman Catholic faith, to have the "maturity" to leave the church, I have experienced a range of emotional responses.
I am angry that the church has left me. I am a Catholic by virtue of my birth into a Catholic family and was educated by nuns and then by the Christian Brothers.
I didn't make choices to be baptised, nor to make my communion, nor confirmation. I walked in Corpus Christi processions, collected bluebells for school May altars, sang in the church choir, attended October devotions and brought my pennies for the black babies. I also kept a guarded distance from Protestants, not that I really knew why.
