No objection to queen's visit
ETHNA Malone's objection to the President's invitation to 'the queen of England to Ireland on behalf of the Irish people' (Letters, January 19) asks for a "vote of the people'' on the issue. I thought a vote of the people had already taken place.
Since the approval of the Good Friday Agreement there seems to be no objection to the invitation. Diplomatically and politically, voters gave overwhelming support to the present status of Northern Ireland on behalf of the Irish people and, indeed, those whom Ethna Malone calls "our patriots of the centuries''. People who are "of similar politics" to her are in a small minority.
