No joke

• I wish to express my concerns regarding a joke published in the Irish Independent on June 19. The joke was in relation to a man and his wife having a heated discussion over finding a piece of paper with a woman's name on it. The female character in the joke strikes her male partner twice on the head with a frying pan.

Whilst this is meant to be humorous, I believe that this joke has undertones hinting at domestic abuse.

As a victim of domestic abuse, I find it extremely offensive for an established and well respected paper such as the Irish Independent to publish such a distasteful and odious joke. This joke clearly makes light of the issue of domestic abuse against men and treats it as a source of entertainment, rather than as a very serious topic.
