No fair hearing for injuries board

It was disappointing to read the unsubstantiated assertion in your newspaper that "figures from the Courts Service show that the number of personal injury cases has consistently risen as a result of the difference in compensation" (Irish Independent, July 26).
The simple facts are that that: InjuriesBoard.ie and the courts are both legally obliged to have regard to the same Book of Quantum when making awards for damages, and annual claims volumes through the courts have actually reduced from 33,000 to 14,000 (-58pc) since the establishment of the board.
It was always anticipated that a minority of personal injury cases would require resolution in the courts, but for the vast majority of claimants, InjuriesBoard.ie provides a speedy, fair and independent means for resolving their claim.
