No end to the pain and we still put up with it

THE measures taken by the previous government, and now its successor, in thinking up ever-more ingenious measures to impoverish the middle- and lower-income workers, who are footing the bill for the entire financial fiasco, are working so well that with each passing month the Government can safely declare more pain to come.

Water charges, property taxes, interest-rate increases, pension levies, health levies, more public-sector pay cuts, tax increases, and on and on it goes. And yet, amidst it all, nothing, even the Government's recently announced, legally questionable, confiscation of private citizens’ assets, it appears can bring the citizens of this nation onto the streets to cry ‘enough'.

Yet the impending visit of the Queen of England is the most convenient distraction the Government could have wished for. The usual bunch of cranks will do their best to disrupt the visit.
