The general election campaign had one main focus -- the economy. All other causes, issues and agendas have been put aside for now. Enda Kenny has promised a new era in politics, an ethical new approach that is open and transparent.
Eamon Gilmore has repeatedly expressed the same sentiments and called for reform long before the election was called.
This rhetoric needs to manifest itself immediately with an undertaking to provide the opposition with the same briefings and reports as the Cabinet receives in the process of budget formulation.
