Never quote out of context
Sir -- As teachers of English we are confident that the vast majority of second-level students understand the importance of using quotations responsibly and accurately. The golden rule is: never quote out of context. Unfortunately for your readers, Emer O'Kelly has either failed to grasp or has no regard for this principle, as evidenced in her article, 'Pupils Failed by Teachers as Much as by Flawed System', (Sunday Independent, May 1, 2011). Fortunately, for anyone who would like to know what we really said, there is the internet (www.asti.ie).
