Sir  — “There is not one sports pitch in our eight parishes — where more than 50,000 people live — large enough for an organised game of soccer, hurling, rugby, camogie or football,” says JJ O’Mahony of St Kevin’s Hurling Club in Aisling Crowe’s timely article (Sport, Sunday Independent, September 18)

For certain we need more housing and fast, but children also need green space to play and sports facilities too.

Dublin City Councillors will surely be short-sighted if they ignore the health and well-being of this and future generations by increasing housing density without regard to the lives of inner city children in Dublin 8 when they start debating the Draft Development Plan.
