Mortality rates shame our leaders

IT was with much anger I read the article "CSO figures reveal Limerick worst place for life expectancy" (Irish Independent, December 22).
As a citizen of Limerick I am very surprised by this scandalous revelation. It is shocking that the figures reveal such high mortality, particularly for single men living in socially provided housing.
What really bothers me is that these figures are from the height of the Celtic Tiger era (2006/7) and the trends identified are likely to be exacerbated during the current depression.
