Moriarty showed guts in resigning
Bishop Jim Moriarty showed great strength of character in the offering of his resignation to the Pope, even though he was not criticised in the Murphy Report.
It took guts because in doing so he highlighted that he should have challenged the prevailing culture, as many bishops and priests should have done at the time.
It saddens me, because he is a workaholic in the cause of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The love and mercy of Jesus was always uppermost in his sermons at Masses in churches all over the Kildare and Leighlin diocese and he always had a kindness and a ready wit about him.
