•Your columnist Darragh McManus, in his column on sky-high salaries in RTE, asks why the likes of Gay Byrne and Mike Murphy are still knocking around RTE.
The answer to that question is simple. RTE, just like the legal profession, is for some of its employees past and present a vast honey pot, it's the honey pot that keeps on giving and it will remain a honey pot so long as the State holds a gun to the heads of television owners and demands an annual licence fee of €160, with a threat of fine or imprisonment for non payment.
RTE should be put up for sale and sold to the highest bidder. Problem solved.
