Modern terror rooted in 1916

With due respect to the opinion of Mr Leavy (Letters, April 9), much of what he says regarding the validity of the actions taken by a cabal of militant individuals in 1916 sounds very similar to the kind of rhetoric we would expect to hear at Sinn Fein ard fheiseanna.
"Proponents" of the 1916 Rising had no mandate from the general public to take up arms on their behalf.
Those most directly involved were, in effect, a group of opportunist mavericks who were mistakenly seen by the authorities of the day as a mishmash of eccentric, militant posers.
