Minister is right on religion in our schools

IN response to the letter in Tuesday's Irish Independent entitled ‘Religious education is vital to our children's development’, I feel that the writer, James Yorke, is excessive in his condemnation of Minister Ruairi Quinn.
An extra hour or so every week concentrating on the ‘three Rs’ can be enormously beneficial, as anyone with a child who receives learning support will confirm.
While the boards of Catholic primary schools have the right to include religious education on the curriculum, once young people have been confirmed they are officially adults in the eyes of the church and should be treated as such.
