'Merkozy chariot' leaves us all in the dust

•A week ago today German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy held a meeting after which they issued a series of sweeping proposals that will radically alter what we understand to be the 'European Community'.
I am surprised that more has not been made of the demarche taken by the pair. Despite the fact that the other members of the union were not part of the meeting, they took upon themselves imperial powers and decreed that Brussels should ultimately control the budgets of member states.
They also proposed that there should be a tax on the financial transactions of banks, and they also took firm aim at our own corporation tax. In short, they laid down the foundations for full fiscal union.
