Martyrs have picked the wrong target

I too would like to support Carol Flannery in sharing her disappointment at having to emigrate from this banana republic (Letters, August 7 and 11).

The derisory reaction that this initial letter got from some of your readers proved only one point to me: there is no need for any government to "divide" the people. We do it just fine ourselves.

No doubt the begrudgers who told Ms Flannery that she should be grateful for everything and stop feeling sorry for herself are the same ones who said in 2007 "Don't rock the boat" out of greedy self-interest.
