Markievicz was a true Irish patriot
Permit me to respond to Stephen Fallon's criticism of Constance Markievicz (Letters, April 7).
Regarding his assertion that her "claim to be a countess was false", it is clear from the record that Markievicz put no store on titles -- countess or otherwise.
If such were of value to her she never would have parted from the privileged and titled Anglo-Irish Gore-Booth family into which she was born. "Countess" was a prefix most often used by others, not by her.
