Many positives in Irish economy
In the midst of our current economic crisis, the positive elements of our economy have been sadly overlooked. Foreign direct investment into Ireland has been an unqualified success story. This success has been in no small part attributable to Ireland's 12.5pc corporation tax rate.
Exports of goods and services from Ireland increased by 7pc in 2010 and will improve next year. Ireland remains home to eight of the world's top 10 pharmaceutical companies, nine of the world's top 10 global technology companies, 15 of the world's top 25 medical technology companies, and more than 50pc of the world's top financial service companies.
It is a real pity that this undoubted success has been overlooked by the media in this country. We continue to focus on the negative aspects of this recession and we ignore the positives.
