Lugs would have sorted them out

REMEMBERING 'Bang-Bang', one of Dublin's great characters, Declan Doyle (Letters, Oct 30) brought another great character of that era to mind: the great Lugs Brannigan, a garda who was a former boxer.
He could knock you into the middle of next week with one of his punches.
He was a man who demanded respect for law and order in the city centre communities he policed. And he got it. He would put the fear of God in you but was also fair, I heard.
