Lives are at real risk in Mountjoy

THE rioting in Mountjoy on Thursday evening is unacceptable -- but it must be understood in the context of how prisoners are living on a daily basis. They are sometimes locked up for 23 hours a day.
Murderers and drug dealers are mixing with people who can't pay their TV licences or their litter fines, which is an intolerable position for a so-called modern state.
The present Minister for Justice and his predecessors have not eased this situation; in fact, they have exacerbated it with empty promises over the years.
