Listening to the public is stupid

Changing a party leader because the voters don't like him is clearly stupid. Just look at the Conservative Party in Britain.
Having replaced John Major with William Hague in 1997, they then replaced Mr Hague with Iain Duncan Smith in 2001.
But finding that the public was unimpressed with Mr Duncan Smith, the Tories replaced him two years later with Michael Howard, who in turn was replaced after two years by David Cameron.
