Life-changing GP visit

Sir -- I did something recently that has changed my whole life. I went to my GP, a person that I really trust, and I told him, after much hesitation and real embarrassment, that I was having suicidal thoughts. It took the courage of an entire army to say what was on my mind in that room, face to face, with another human being and to become that vulnerable.
He didn't do anything. He looked at me and then whispered, "Ahhhhh". He went on to show the most compassion and kindness that I have found in any human being for a long time. I was blown away by his kindness and total knowledge of how to handle this frightened and confused patient before him.
We ended up laughing as my story unfolded and sat talking seriously and quietly about the possible consequences of my declining emotional health.
