Letters to the Editor

This letter is a challenge to the Taoiseach and Government to show courage and fairness by approving the current claims for salary increases by paying the same fixed amount to all entitled employees.

I have written before about the anomaly since the 1950s of how cost-of-living increases were determined by percentage salary increases, rather than on fixed amounts related to the actual cost of living, which would be the same for all employees.

I am a retired public servant. Up until the 1950s, the cost-of-living increases were granted on a fixed amount - not on a percentage of salaries.
