• It's Budget time once again. Government ministers suddenly see an opportunity to get on the box (TV or soap) tweet of their knowledge of what lies beneath the crown of the incumbent Finance Minister for Budget day.
Amazingly enough, it's usually in an area that has nothing to do with their departmental portfolio. Thus, we had Minister for State for Transport Alan Kelly on RTE, predicting the end of the state subsidy for private schools, without saying where the Government would find the extra 26,000 school places and €91m extra if private schools went to the wall.
However, I'd love to ask him what he is going to do about the CIE troika of Iarnrod Eireann, Bus Eireann and particularly Dublin Bus.
