Laity must reclaim church

•A leading priest based in Youghal, Co Cork, has hit out against the Catholic Church hierarchy saying that they are sticking their heads in the sand over a number of crucial issues, such as women priests.
He says that if the current church regime continues, Mass attendances in Ireland will soon be reduced to groups of old women. A truer word could not be spoken. Daily Mass-goers are 90pc women and 10pc men -- almost all are 50 to 80 years of age.
Even on Sundays, where are all the young people, whether it be children, teenagers or young parents who send their children to Catholic schools and have them confirmed and make their Holy Communion but do not attend Mass?
