Lack of women in Dail is not trivial

All Robert Sullivan seems to be able to contribute to the debate on the under-representation of women in the Oireachtas is to accuse those of us who feel that it is an important issue of 'sucking up to the sisters' (Letters, February 9).

We have a country that is bankrupt courtesy of decisions made by those in control of the nearly 90pc-male Dail.

It is, therefore, a negation of our democracy for Mr Sullivan to resort to a combination of trivialisation and personalised argumentum ad hominem in order to rubbish discussion on this important issue.
