Sir - So I read that Minister for Environment Alan Kelly believes the Central Bank is responsible for the current "emergency" in house building (Sunday Independent, October 25).

It's a bit like blaming the iceberg for sinking the Titanic. After all, somebody was steering the ship.

Minister Kelly instead needs to look at his own Labour Party's dire role in the formulation of housing policy over the past three decades. It has failed to protect the populace from exploitation by neo-liberal, free-market commodification, operating in a housing market privatised to a dangerous level.
