Sir -- I would like to correct some errors in a letter (Sunday Independent, Mar. 21, 2010), regarding a woman whose car was seized for non payment of road tax after two months.
This is incorrect. Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act states that only after three months can a vehicle be seized for non payment.
I spent the last 10 years at the Garda College in the legal and policing section as a sergeant, where it is stressed to students that if a vehicle is seized, all efforts should be made to ensure the safety of the owner.
