Kennedy and the age of innocence

I KNOW a man who joined the Rangers unit of the Irish army many years ago. "We are Rangers, mighty, mighty Rangers -- we love PT, we love PT. . ." Remember?
He told me that prior to his unit being set up, war manoeuvres always comprised the 'Americans' on one side and 'Russians' on the other.
The 'Americans' always won the exercise. Such a lovely story of an Irish way of seeing the world. Oh, give us back our quaint innocence of living in a time when we thought JFK was a saint and deserved his place on the mantelpiece alongside the Pope. All gone now. . . with Timothy Leary in the grave. . . or in outer space.
