Justice system needs reform

I can well remember the 1970s and 1980s when criminals were being advised by judges that if they took the boat to England they would avoid a prison sentence.

To our eternal shame as a nation we gave the same advice to our pregnant and frightened unmarried young women, so that they might have an abortion while we remained smug and secure in holy Catholic Ireland.

We exported our awkward problems instead of dealing with them.
