Much emotional and intellectual energy has been expended over the 1916 commemorations.

Indeed as the hot-air balloon ascended over the city one wondered was it lifted by the emissions of all those who vented so vociferously in a largely meaningless debate.

On the one side you had all those who damned all associated with the Rising, on the other you had those who would cast them as Easter deities.
